How to Spot Water Damage

A leaky ceiling or water stains on walls may seem funny in a movie but when it is your house in question, it is a matter of concern. Spotting water damage early on is a necessity to ward off any possible danger that can prove costly for you in the future. Water can leak in hidden places like the inside of the walls which you possibly can never figure out until and unless some severe damage has been done. You must look for signs that show trouble at the earliest possible, otherwise it could go unchecked for a long time.

You can avoid such leakage problems, if only you spot the signs and get it checked before it converts into a big one. It does not take an expert to know if there is any kind of trouble. Most of the times, the leakage happens where water pipes run inside the wall, connected to different home appliances. Of course, one can never figure it out from the outside appearance but sometimes the smallest of signs could tip you off about these problems looming ahead.

The trick is to stay alert and be aware of any slight change that appears in the looks of your home walls and surroundings. You can know there is trouble as soon as you see these telltale signs:

• If there are any unusual water stains that seem to appear suddenly on your walls then you should know something, somewhere is wrong and get it immediately checked with your plumber.

• If you see your ceiling, leaking water then there is no time to lose. There is no telling, how damaged your ceiling could be due to the leakage. There is also a huge chance of the entire ceiling coming down.

• Keeping a regular check of the attic, roof and the drainage system around your house is necessary. Any unusual changes like a leaky roof or any sign of leakage in the attic needs your immediate attention.

• Standing water anywhere near your house is a matter of concern and should immediately be looked into. Heavy rain is a good time to check for this. Look for small puddles of water in and around your house. If you find such puddles of water then it implies either your drainage system is faulty or the gutters are overflowing with water.

To prevent any type of disaster, it is imperative to spot these early signs of damage and act pronto.
