A central heating boiler that has a holding tank for water will periodically need that tank cleaned. You will want to use a descaling treatment to clean these tanks approximately once a year. This treatment will also flush and clean your pipes so that you have the cleanest possible water supply.

The valves on the connections for a central heating boiler need to be checked and maintained on a yearly basis. These valves can become clogged with scales from hard water and they can get pieces of trash hung in them. When these valves become clogged they hinder the flow of water through them and the reduction of water supply can cause other parts of the device to begin to malfunction.

You should do a yearly check on your central heating boiler to make sure there are no leaks in the pipes that feed cold water into or the pipes that are leaving the holding tank. Small leaks can lead to big problems in the future.

A central heating boiler has pressure release switches and pressure release valves for prevention of emergencies. If the tank that is holding the heated water gets too much pressure in it the valve can be opened and release the pressure. Too much pressure can cause the system to malfunction completely and can even cause harm to other appliances in the home. Too little pressure can be as bad for the system as too much so the gauges on these items should be monitored to make certain that they are operating within their limitations.

It is highly recommended that you keep the area around the device clear of debris and relatively clean. Dust can be ignited and can cause damage to the system and damage to your home. To prevent accidental fires, or damages from flooding waters, you need to keep the area clean so you can always get to the device in a hurry. Once a year is often enough to wash the exterior surfaces of the device to remove dust from them.

You will more than likely want to hire a professional service technician to come out at least once every year and check the system with their tools and gauges. The technician can often spot problems that are starting to happen before they become major problems. When you catch a problem while it is still a small one your cost to repair the device will be a lot less.
